We read 1,263 customer reviews across these four listings: the one-, two- and three-star reviews at each, to a depth of around a hundred per star level, plus a recent sample at every level to establish how old each listing's review base is. Three of those twelve sets ran out before we did; for the other nine we stopped, which means a deeper pass exists. The oldest reviews we reached are from 2017.
We then discarded about half of them, and that step matters more than the total. These listings pool sizes: a review of a 29-inch checked bag sits on the same page as one of the 21-inch carry-on, and a checked bag takes abuse a carry-on never sees. The pooling is also uneven — carry-on reviews are 57% of the Platinum Elite's, 43% of the Maxlite 5's, 39% of the Amazon Basics' and 100% of the Omni 2's. Comparing raw complaint counts across the four would have made the Omni 2 look worst precisely because its sample is the cleanest.
